Qatar Academy Student is making Waves

Doha, Qatar June 24 -Talented Qatar Academy student, Sauod Al Amadi is the first Qatari student to have learned how to paddle a Surf Ski. Supported by the Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation, fifteen year old Saoud is also well on his way to mastering the K-1 Olympic Kayak.

A Surf Ski is a light kayak designed for the large waves of open ocean-paddling. More stable than the Olympic Kayak, Surf Skis are widely used as the first stage in training for this even more challenging craft.

Sauod, who is a 10th Grade Honours student, is currently training with Qazi Muhammad Amjad, National Coach for rowing and kayaking at the 15th Asian Games; Dr. Paul Saffigna, Technical Official and Lifeguard for rowing, canoe/kayak events at the 15th Asian Games and Steve Rhodes, his science teacher at Qatar Academy and an avid kayaker.

Souad's coaches agree that he displays a real flair for this challenging sport and this potential, combined with his hard work and commitment, has led all three to predict great things for his future - as they look forward to Saoud representing his country at the 16th Asian Games in 2010.
