Introduction to the Math and Physics Department
The Mathematics faculty place a strong emphasis on the student's ability to understand problems presented in English, to apply concepts from mathematics to solve such problems, and to provide explanations in English to the solutions to such problems.

The faculty emphasizes the development of critical thinking, independent research skills and an understanding of concepts in math and physics. An emphasis is also placed on the student's ability to explain concepts of science in English.
The mission of the Math and Physics Department is to help students develop the logical thinking skills and work habits that will enable them to be successful in their university study.

STUDENT PLACEMENT IN MATH AND PHYSICS COURSES
Students are placed in Math courses according to their scores an accuplacer test used for placement.

STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS
Each student is responsible for fulfilling the requirements of the program. This includes being prepared for each class by completing assignments and bringing the necessary texts and materials to class. Achieving academic success means that the student has developed the critical thinking and the ability for independent study necessary for acceptance into success in universities of international standing.

HELPING YOU COPE WITH MATH AND PHYSICS COURSES
Math and Physics tutors are available to help you after school or during the Integrated Studies class. Teachers are available to give extra assistance to students with justified absences from class during teacher's office hours. Students participate in projects and activities designed to develop their understanding and to encourage them to work collaboratively with other students.
Regular quizzes and tests help students identify their areas of strength and weakness in math and physics courses.
